Synopsis
Six children living in the Land of Forgetfulness, a mystical and playful place where all the forgotten things of the world end up, have to face the arrival of a seventh member. Everyone there, at some point, has been in their place, having to confront the latent absence of memory. But now, something is different. With the aggravation of the Brazilian Military Regime, Seven remembers. What is the price of memory? The mobilization generated by this new character leads them on a journey to conquer the right to remember, understanding what constitutes them as individuals, what the essentials are in the act of becoming, to search for the gaps in consciousness, and the importance of having their story told. It is about the choice of ignorance, about light, memory, pain, and time. To fly forward and backward, to weave plans, and read dreams. Hummingbird.
"Colibri" was a 40-minutes play co-developed by a group of fifteen people through the course of two months and presented by the end of June 2023. I pitched the idea of the plot, inspired by a infant book I read when I was eight years old - "The Island of Lost Time", by Silvana Gandolfi. Our play concerned the revival of memory after the military dictatorship in Brazil, receiving the highest honour from the jury. I played Seven, the only character that stills remember what is happening on the outside world (the girl dressed in red, in the pictures). Ísis Dias de Oliveira, mentioned in the script, was a Political Science student who went missing in 1972 during the military coup.
